THe why - Oliver Rees is a Birmingham-born Rapper and fusion guitarist, based in Leeds, U.K. - His sound is typically defined by: rhyme-dense lyricism, laid over boom-bap style beats, injected with Soul and Jazz sampling, often accompanied by guitar licks, inspired by Jimi Hendrix and Joe Pass.
To date Oliver Rees has released 3 E.P.s (2 of which (‘Nights In Sofia’ and ‘nights in marrakech’) reached No. 4 on the iTunes Hip Hop album Chart), as well as various singles.
Oliver has collaborated with artists such as Tommy Evans, SonnyJim, Juga-Naut and more. He has played guitar on releases from Rohey Jallow, Farma G and Rob Hyde. Additionally, Oliver has produced and directed music projects for artists, including Tamara S, Vanesa Jan and Ruby Barker (some projects due to be released in 2025).
Oliver’s music is often featured on BBC Introducing. The majority of this has been on the BBC Introducing in Leeds and Sheffield, with several of his tracks being aired nationally on the BBC1xtra, BBC 6 Music and Kiss FM.
